Getting a Concealed Carry Permit in Louisiana

Updated: Oct 28, 2020

In Louisiana only residents aged 21 and above are eligible to receive their concealed handgun permit. Active duty military assigned to a military posting in Louisiana can also be eligible.

The first step is to take and complete a firearms safety or training course offered or approved by the Louisiana State Police . We would recommend taking the course with us at Advanced Protection Services NOLA (APSNOLA.COM).

For more details about the specifics of training requirements as outlined by the state visit this page: http://www.lsp.org/handguns.html#apply

After the class is complete, you will have to submit the official state application for a concealed handgun permit . The State now offers and recommends you fill out the online application at the following address: http://chp-web.dps.louisiana.gov/ Once you have completed your online application, you will need to obtain two sets of fingerprints. You may obtain these from your local Sheriffs' Office or Police Department for a fee. You may also obtain fingerprints from local businesses which provide a fingerprinting service. Sometimes it is best to travel to Baton Rouge and obtain fingerprints from the Louisiana State Police. This makes the processing time shorter. Once you have obtained your fingerprints you have Fifteen days from the day you submitted your application to mail the fingerprints to the State Police Handgun Unit.

Please note the state no longer requires that you submit photos with your application and no longer requires that your application be notarized.

Once you have obtained your Louisiana Concealed Handgun Permit there are many States that accept your Louisiana Permit. Here is a link for this information: http://www.lsp.org/images/ch_map.gif
